Alert

SituationFirst aid person assists in a place where an emergency department can take to support the victim.
DefinitionIt is an action which communicate the emergency service as an emergency occurred and request support for taking care of the victim.
RisksIf not Tell the emergency department can seriously compromise the possibility of successfully assisting and / or complete care of the victim.
Principles of action1. An emergency alert should be made as early as possible, by the most appropriate means at your disposal.2. Alert date should provide as much relevant information as possible about the emergency situation to allow the most appropriate decision making in determining the type of emergency services required.
Note: Alert may be the only action performed by a passerby or a person first aid, demonstrating its readiness to assist.
Principles techniques
Step 1Collect relevant information.
Key aspects of step 1• Determine the exact position of where the accident occurred and ways of access.• Identify, if possible, the circumstances of the incident (eg. A car accident) and the presence of potential hazards (eg. A fire).• Collect information about the status of victim [see recommendations on this subject].
Justification step 1• Quality information about the emergency situation and victim status are a key factor in determining the most appropriate service and mobilization of emergency to ensure victim care (including rescue activities).
Note 1: These recommendations do not refer to situations with multiple victims. This is why information such as "number of victims and a brief assessment of each 'alert not shown here.
Note 2: An alert can be done in two times: (a) in the first call is presented major problems (eg. A victim trapped in the vehicle) and victim status, focusing on immediate threats to life, (b) in theThe second is offering more detailed information about the status of victim.
Step 2Alert dispatcher or emergency service.
Key aspects of step 2• Choose one of the means at your disposal to ensure the rapid and quality of information collected.• If you use a tool that allows dialogue with dispatcher or emergency service.• alert message should contain:• at least the information collected (eg. Place guidelines on access to the scene, information about the dangers)• If measures were taken to save lives, which are those• asking for suggestions for care.
Justification for step 2• The best means of transmitting an alert telecommunications are either a transmitter or a phone. Such a device allows for a dialogue. Dialogue provides the person first aid and guidance necessary to complete or stop the intervention.• When such telecommunications equipment or do not work there, a passerby can be sent to the nearest radio, telephone or health care service, with instructions to return to the scene to answer, such as estimated time the arrival of emergency services and care instructions on measures to be taken.
Step 3(When there is a phone available near the accident site) Stay in contact with emergency services.
Key aspects of step 3• Indicate which phone number to call.• If appropriate, provide guidance on how to arrive at the scene and information about hazards.• Keep the line open until the one who receives the call will be asked to close.• receive any instruction.
Justification step 3• Information provided by the dispatcher can contain any advice to give first aid person, on victim assistance until the arrival of emergency services or transport the victim to a care center. Moreover, dispatcher can guide first aid person carrying out an intervention to prevent inappropriate or may recommend termination where further efforts could:• To increase unnecessary risk to the person providing assistance or• be futile given the victim's condition and the context of emergency services available, or• Do not be necessary because the victim does not need any other assistance, recovering fully satisfactory state of health.• This contact can be useful to guide emergency service / transport that comes on the scene.
Note: passerby can be used to limit the possibility (eg. A short distance from the scene and point of contact) for connection with the dispatcher or emergency service.
Note: If necessary and / or possible emergency dispatcher or service should be called again to provide updated information about the situation and / or of the victim.
